What Went Down at UON Day 2026

It was a lively and eventful day at our inaugural open house, filled with meaningful conversations, fresh perspectives, and plenty of memorable moments. From engaging panel discussions to spin-the-wheel prizes earned by completing the quest card, the energy throughout the day was unmistakable. Attendees connected with faculty and peers, shared plenty of laughs, and enjoyed complimentary treats—because good conversations are always better with food in one hand and coffee in another.

A key highlight of the day was our panel discussions, where speakers across alumni, academics and industry experts shared insights on different stages of the academic journey. The first panel, featuring Girish Nair (Marketing Manager at CASY Engineering Consultancy), Derrick Chang (CEO of PSB Academy), and Karen Lee Shi Mei (Director of THK Therapy Services/Hub), and moderated by Dr Colin Smith (Program Coordinator & Lecturer at University of Newcastle, Australia), explored how furthering your studies can shape and accelerate your career—offering valuable perspectives for prospective undergraduate students.

The second panel, led by Dr Kevin Cheong (Head of PEI Programs at Newcastle Australia), Er. Lim Yaw Shyan (Deputy Director at BCA Academy), and Bernice Liang (Paediatric Occupational Therapist), with Associate Professor Peter Duffy (Academic Director at Newcastle Australia) as moderator, focused on postgraduate pathways, diving into leadership specialisation and navigating change in today’s evolving professional landscape.

Together, both sessions sparked thoughtful discussions and gave attendees a clearer sense of what’s next.

As the event came to a close, we hope everyone walked away with something meaningful—whether it’s a new direction for their career, the motivation to take the next step, or simply a satisfied tummy after a day well spent. We also held a lucky draw for attendees who applied for a program during the event, and we’re looking forward to sharing the results in October once Term 3 is underway.
