Welcome to The Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education (Newcastle Australia) - a campus of the University of Newcastle, Australia.
The University of Newcastle is a research-intensive University and ranked in the top 180 of the world’s universities (QS World University Rankings 2025). We are top 40 in the world for impact. Impact is measured by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings which assess universities against the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). We are committed to solving the world's problems aligned with our core values of equity, excellence, engagement and sustainability.
Newcastle Australia is the Asia Pacific hub of the University. We deliver highest quality programs and undertake collaborative research in partnerships with education institutions in Singapore and across the regions.

Over the years, we have graduated more than 8,000 graduates from 39 countries, and our alumni are making meaningful and lasting contributions to businesses and wider community in Singapore and worldwide. We are proud of our role in preparing world-class graduates for Singapore and the region.
As a globally and socially committed institution, we also forge partnerships and networks for our students and staff to enable them to contribute their knowledge and expertise and to drive multidisciplinary research to address significant global issues. Celebrated as one of Asia’s most advanced education, research and innovation hubs, Singapore has been the ideal location for the delivery of the University of Newcastle’s programs in the region since 2002. Our strategic location is even more relevant today with the rise of Asia.

Established as a wholly-owned entity of the University in 2006, Newcastle Australia (formerly known as UON Singapore) has continued to deliver and expand both its full-time and part-time programs. Our strong partnerships with leading local institutions provide our diverse range of local and international students access to a broad variety of professional networks when they graduate.

Our researchers work with world-class organisations and institutions in the Singapore region and across the globe on research projects, research seminars and faculty-specific collaborations.

The Establishment of the University of Newcastle in Australia

The University of Newcastle has a long and rich history of providing high quality education to students in Australia and around the world. Established in 1965, the University of Newcastle has grown to become a leading institution with a reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. Over the years, the University of Newcastle has undergone significant transformation and expansion, with the establishment of multiple campuses and faculties, and the development of a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Today, the University of Newcastle is recognised as one of Australia’s top universities, known for its commitment to research and innovation, and for its focus on producing graduates who are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen careers. 

2002
The University of Newcastle First Established Its Presence in Singapore

In 2002, PSB Academy and The University of Newcastle formed a strategic relationship to offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Singapore. The partnership brings together the strengths of both institutions, with PSB Academy’s reputation as a leading private education institution in Singapore, and the University of Newcastle’s world-class reputation for academic excellence and research. Today, the collaboration offers students in Singapore access to high quality programs in business, engineering, and IT, as well as opportunities for academic exchange and research collaboration between two institutions. The partnership provides students with an excellent opportunity to gain a globally recognised degree from a prestigious institution while studying in Singapore.

2006
The Establishment of Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education

The Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education (Newcastle Australia) was established as a wholly owned entity of the University of Newcastle in 2006. As the Asia Pacific hub of the University, Newcastle Australia continues to deliver highest quality programs and undertake collaborative research in partnerships with education institutions in Singapore and across the regions.

In addition to focusing on providing excellent education, Newcastle Australia IHE is also committed to research and innovation. Our researchers work with world-class organisations and institutions on research projects, research seminars, and faculty-specific collaborations. This collaborative approach to research ensures that our academic staff are at the forefront of their fields, and are able to contribute to the development of innovative solutions to real-world problems. Through our strong research focus, Newcastle Australia IHE is helping to drive progress and innovation in a wide range of industries and sectors, both in Singapore and around the world.

2013
Partnership with BCA

In 2013, The University of Newcastle started a new partnership with BCA Academy, a leading provider of built environment education and training in Singapore, to offer a range of high quality programs in the fields of construction, engineering, and project management. This partnership also offers students the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience through internships and work placements with leading companies in the built environment sector. It is also an ideal platform for academic exchange and research collaboration between the two institutions, contributing to the development of innovative solutions to real-world problems in the built environment sector.

2022
Relocation of Campus to National Library Building

Newcastle Australia’s new campus at National Library Building was officially launched by the University of Newcastle’s alumnus Dr Khaw Boon Wan, the Australian High Commissioner The Hon William Hodgman, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky, AO on 16 February 2022.

Launch of Graduate Programs in Singapore

Newcastle Australia aims to offer a diverse range of postgraduate programs designed to meet the needs of students seeking specialised knowledge and skills in various fields. Today, we have launched a series of master’s degree programs including Master of Business Psychology, Master of Special and Inclusive Education, Master of Information Technology and Master of Health Economics, Management and Policy.
