Singapore Graduation Ceremony 2023

On 18 November (Saturday), Newcastle Australia marked a momentous occasion by celebrating the success of 171 graduate students.

The graduation ceremony was held in the ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel, where the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, occasional speakers, graduands, and their guests came together for this joyous occasion.

The first occasional speaker, Mrs Ng Gim Choo, graced the event with her presence and shared key highlights of her inspirational career. In 1995, she set up the first Eton House School, which has since grown to 120 schools in 10 countries, teaching 20,000 students from infants through to High School. The second occasional speaker was His Excellency Allaster Cox, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore. Having worked for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for many years in different roles across Southeast Asia, His Excellency highlighted the valuable role mentors play in shaping our careers and life journeys.

Following the presentation of graduates to the Chancellor, Evan Reginald Wijaya represented the students and took the stage. He talked about how he and his fellow students had to build additional resilience due to the Covid-19 outbreak. With approximately half of their studies conducted online, students had to navigate the hurdles of forging connections and building a sense of camaraderie through virtual interactions. Evan reminded us that today’s graduates are a generation of hope for the world as well as the only generation that knows how to use TikTok properly!

Evan Reginald Wijaya, a student representative, shared the unique challenges faced by the graduating class, particularly in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

After the formal proceedings, graduates, their friends, and families celebrated with afternoon tea, taking photos at the photobooths, and browsing through UoN merchandise, creating lasting memories of this special day.

Congratulations to the class of 2023 for their remarkable achievements!
