About the Course

In today’s safety-critical workplaces, organisations collect vast amounts of incident, inspection, audit, and operational data. However, many safety professionals struggle to convert this information into meaningful insights that support proactive decision-making.

This practical one-day workshop equips safety officers and workplace safety professionals with the skills to analyse, visualise, and communicate safety data effectively using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Participants will learn how to identify incident trends, highlight high-risk areas through visual analytics, evaluate the effectiveness of safety interventions, and present evidence-based recommendations to management.

Through hands-on exercises and real-world safety scenarios, participants will gain practical experience in transforming raw safety data into actionable intelligence that supports safer workplaces and continuous improvement.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for practising Workplace Safety and Health Officers (WSHOs) and WSH Coordinators who are responsible for incident investigation, safety performance reporting, and regulatory compliance. It is equally suited to Safety Representatives, HSE Executives, and team leaders in supervisory safety roles who handle operational safety data on a regular basis.

No prior knowledge of data science, statistics, or programming is required. Participants need only be familiar with basic computer use. The course is especially relevant to safety practitioners who:

  • currently manage incident reports and safety KPIs in spreadsheets or paper-based systems
  • prepare monthly or quarterly safety performance reports for management
  • are expected to present safety data to internal committees, auditors, or regulators
  • want to strengthen the analytical dimension of their role without pursuing a full data science qualification

  2. Apply time-series thinking and basic statistical tools to detect emerging hazard patterns before they escalate.
  3. Build and present heat maps and charts that communicate safety risk clearly to management and frontline workers alike.
  4. Compare pre- and post-intervention data and draw defensible conclusions on whether a control is working.
  5. Prepare investigation and performance reports grounded in data, not just narrative description.
