Burnout and Commitment

MBP

About The Event

The speaker, Dr Bek Wuay Tang, will share her insights with us on why burnout is not simply “too much work” but a chronic mismatch between people and their jobs, and how that directly shapes whether people feel engaged or depleted at work. Drawing on her practitioner experience with organisations and teams in Singapore, she will clarify the difference between everyday stress and true burnout, and show how gaps between job demands and resources, workplace culture and employees’ values, and who people aspire to be versus how they feel in their roles can quietly erode wellbeing and commitment.

Following the talk, join us for an information session on our specialised Master’s in Business Psychology, where you’ll learn more about the program and curriculum.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish between everyday work stress and burnout, and recognise several early indicators in themselves and others.
  • Explain how misalignment between job demands and resources, workplace culture and personal values, and ideal self and current role experience can undermine engagement.

Who Should Attend?

  • Anyone who wants to better understand, prevent and address burnout in themselves and others, and sustain engagement over the long term.
  • Anyone who leads or supports teams and wants to address burnout without sacrificing performance.
  • Emerging leaders, coordinators and HR/OD practitioners interested in building burnout‑resilient, engaged workplaces.
