About The Event
Digitalisation has become a part of our daily lives, as have harmful activities in the cyber ecosystems. According to statistics on online scams in Singapore, in the first half of 2024, there were over 26,000 reported scams, a 16% increase from the same period in 2023. These numbers are on the rise, and scams and cybercrime issues remain major concerns for all of us. Are citizens (1) prepared to tackle online tasks without falling prey to harmful activities? (2) prepared to detect harmful online activities early? And (3) able to recognise a potential online scam before it’s too late? To be resilient against cybercrime, citizens would need to develop the competencies to deal with the challenges above.
This workshop aims to address the main issues surrounding digital wellness, particularly the vulnerability to cybercrime. This workshop incorporates a role-playing component via simulated (gamified) cybercrime challenges. Participants in the digital wellness readiness activities will be able to recognise their weaknesses and areas of concern regarding online activities. They will engage in interactive workshops and exercises designed to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, helping them grasp the key issues and challenges of participating in potentially harmful online activities. Participants in the in-person and online workshops will take part in a one-hour activity which includes:
- Ransomware-simulated activity showcasing the consequences of an attack and its effects, such as data loss.
- Participate in a simulated phishing scam email showcasing online tricks used by perpetrators to harvest personal data including bank details.
- Recognising and differentiating fake and understanding what is deepfake.
- Other digital wellness activities will involve role-playing and sharing real-life scenarios through audio/video demonstrations.
- Discussion and demonstration of perpetrators’ actions in harvesting personal data.
- Discussion and demonstration of safeguarding actions while participating in online activities.
