Theme: Communicable Disease Awareness
The University of Newcastle Australia is excited to announce a student competition open to all Polytechnic students. The competition is focused on raising awareness about communicable diseases. Participants (in groups of minimum 2 to maximum 4 students) are invited to create a 2 to 3-minute video addressing the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of a chosen communicable disease. Each video should include a catchy and informative tagline. Use any software (Canva, PPT, Zoom, etc.) — bring your A-game into science and storytelling!
Key Dates:
Registration and Abstract Submission Deadline: June 30, 2025
Video Submission Deadline: Sept 15, 2025
Final Screening & Awards: Oct 17, 2025

Other information:
- Cash prizes for the top teams: Top 3 prizes $1000, $800, $600, and Consolation Prizes
- A communicable disease is one that spreads from one person or animal to another or from a surface to a person. It can transmit through the air or by contact with bodily fluids, insect bites, contaminated surfaces, water, and foods. Examples of communicable diseases include influenza, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, malaria or COVID-19.
- Make your abstract brief, a maximum of 300 words. Include the disease you are highlighting, with key points on diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
- Creatively explain the diagnosis process, highlighting effective prevention strategies and available treatment options in the video. Include a memorable, relevant tagline. You can create an animated explainer video, include an interview with an expert, share a personal story, propose a public service announcement, film an educational skit, or present an infographic video!
- Videos are accessed based on accuracy of content, creativity and clarity of information shared.
Terms and Conditions:
- Contest is open to Polytechnic students in Singapore. (existing or graduated within the last 2 years).
- All entry forms must be digitally received by 12noon, June 30, 2025.
- All videos are to be digitally received by 12 noon, September 15, 2025, through the Google Form submission link sent to the team leader’s email from the registration form.
- Each team may consist of 2 – 4 persons officially.
- Participants in each team can be from different faculties/schools and also from different polytechnics.
- Each registration form allows submission of 1 video. To submit another video, use a separate registration form.
- Videos are to be a maximum of 3 minutes, completed in English only. Subtitling is optional.
- All entrants are to complete talent release form allowing the work to be showcased by the University of Newcastle, Australia (UON) and Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education (NAIHE).
