Dr Neil McGregor

Biography

Neil began his academic career as an ESRC Management Teaching Fellow with the Loughborough University Business School in 1992 before joining Dundee Business School (Abertay University) where his roles – over the 1993-2020 period - included Lecturer Applied Economics and Finance, Director of Research and Head of Division (Accounting, Finance and Economics). In his Director of Research role Neil led on all aspects of research and consultancy projects for two commercially funded research centres providing regional labour market and economic intelligence for a consortium of public and private sector clients. As Head of Division - involving lead responsibility for teaching and learning, research and resources in the Accounting, Finance and Economics subject areas – Neil was responsible for academic quality management processes such as the design, development and accreditation of programs, subject and program quality review. He also acted as a subject and program External Examiner on international collaborative partnerships.

Neil is a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE), with the Chartered Association of Business Schools, with teaching and learning experience across a range of courses in economics (e.g. International Business Economics, Global Trade and Finance, Energy Economics, Managerial Economics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Innovation Economics, Health Economic Evaluation and Economic Development), finance (e.g. International Business Finance, Corporate Finance), business and management (e.g. Globalisation, Strategic Business Management, Enterprise Development, Sustainability Management) and tourism (e.g. Tourism Economics, Tourism Development & Planning, Tourism Impact Assessment). Neil has also been a visiting professor/ lecturer at institutions including the University of Stirling, University of Glasgow, Dundee University, RKC (Switzerland), ETAP (Tunisia) and SEGi and INTI (Malaysia), amongst others. Neil is currently engaged with professional networks including the Chartered Management Institute, Economics Society of Singapore, International Association for Energy Economists and the International Economists Consultancy Association.

Neil’s research has led to the production of a number of journal publications, books and book chapters, reports, conference papers (please see Publications section) and significant income generation (please see Grants and Funding section). He is currently engaged in research in areas including supply chain resilience, economic development, state capitalism and hybrid governance, sustainable energy transitions and the international political-economy of international trade in energy and critical minerals and the politics of vaccine hesitancy.

Neil has also undertaken journal review assignments for a number of journals including Environment & Planning A; The Innovation; Energy Policy; Eurasian Geography and Economics and Regional Economic Development Research.
